FINAL EXAM: your suggestions

Do you have suggestions for the final exam?

FORMAT:

1. short questions on the content of books, texts and films;
2. critical essays on the books;
3. compare/contrast questions on the films.

I welcome (for credit) your ideas for topics for the short essays and compare/contrast section. Please post as often as you wish.

I will select the topics/questions from your suggestions and I will post them ahead of time so that you can prepare at home. In class you will NOT be able to use your notes.

I will add comments to your future assignments with suggestions on how you can turn your observations and insights into viable topics for the final.

    I think a good topic for essays would be comparing the similarities and differences between the way the various pieces of film and literature depict Italian-Americans and whether or not the depiction of Italian-Americans in literature and film has progressed over the years, from the way Italian-Americans were shown in an early film like "The Italian" to a more modern film.

    Elisa: Thank you for opening the conversation, but....
    could you try to formulate your suggestion in exam format, as a question or as a topic? Maybe something like: "Trace the changes of the image of Italian Americans from "The Italian" to "....."

    i think a good question could be something along the lines of "compare the themes found in "L'Emigrante" to "The Italian"..how are they similar/ different?

    or comparing and contrasting the journey and hardships the main characters experience in "Son of Italy" and "Christ in Concrete"

    Compare the portrayal of the Italian-American from early works like "The Italian" or "Son of Italy" to a later work such as "The Godfather." Has the image changed through the years?

    I agree with Katherine. It will be good to write compare/contrast on those two films. since those two characters had different ways of struggling their life as Imigant, there will be many ways to comepare those two characters and to find similarities.
